Black said he and other injured players Daniel Bradshaw and Daniel Merrett, have all recovered well from the seven-point victory over Carlton and will take their place in the side.
“It was probably a roll of the dice, but as it turned out the three of us guys that were under a cloud were very lucky that our bodies held up,” Black said.
“I was really pleased … It was the first time I’d hurt a hamstring so I wasn’t aware whether it was going to tighten up.”
“It was almost better for the run – as the game wore on it freed up.”
Black said the remaining injury clouds are also starting to disappear, with Joel MacDonald (back), Jed Adcock (knee) and Josh Drummond (quad) likely to return to make it a full strength team for Friday night.
“Drummo and [Daniel] Rich are probably our two best kicks in the side and magnificent with the ball in their hands.
“Jed would give us a fair bit of grunt, a fair bit of polish too out of the back half and he can play through the middle as well so he is a really top-liner for us.”
Black described the victory over Carlton as his best ever win at the Gabba, surpassing a string of finals victories at the venue during the Lions' premiership era.
“It’s in the top handful of wins I’ve ever had,” Black said.
“It’s a younger group and for those guys to experience a final was a very satisfying win.”
“But at the same time I don’t want to look back now, we have to look forward, we’ve been looking forward since Monday … there’s bigger fish to fry.”
Black is looking forward to the buzz of returning the MCG to play a final for the first time in five years.
He says they haven’t played a solid four quarters all year and are unfazed at being considered long shots against the Bulldogs.
“We know our best footy is very good and we will back ourselves against any side, we just need to reach near that level and we will be confident,” Black said.
