Newly drafted Lion Sam Skinner says he is slowly but surely adapting to the Queensland humidity.
“It’s been hard to adapt to the conditions,” Skinner told LionsTV in his first week at the Club.
“It’s definitely hotter than back home (Victoria). It reaches probably 23 maximum and up here it’s 30 on a cold day, but I quite enjoy the heat so it’s good.”
Skinner is a key defender who can also go forward and impact a game.
A versatile player, he played two matches at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, averaging nine possessions and 4.5 tackles, before injuring his knee (ACL reconstruction) and ending his season.
“It’s been harder in the rehab group but it’s been good to know the rehab boys. Everyone’s been really welcoming around the Club. It’s been great.”
Skinner and fellow draftee Rhys Mathieson have had a helping hand from CEO Greg Swann and his wife Leonie since arriving in Brisbane – living in their family home.
“I’m stoked to be put up there for the next couple of weeks,” Skinner said.
The Club’s first and second year players along with their parents will gather for the very first ‘Lethal Lions Family Induction’ event this weekend.
“We’ve got our parents coming up – all the first year blokes and second year blokes.
“It’s a family thing where everyone meets up and gets to know each other. That’s how I’ll be spending my first weekend in Brisbane.”
