Fox Footy's Riley Beveridge takes a look at who the Lions should take with their first selections in the upcoming AFL Draft on November 24.
Pick: 2
Ideal: Josh Schache
Otherwise: Jacob Weitering
The Lions desperately need a key forward and they should secure one in Josh Schache, according to Fox Sports.
They won just 21 per cent of their offensive one-on-one contests last year, which is clearly the worst in the competition.
Enter Schache.
The 199cm forward booted a record 24 goals from six games in the national championships and 34 goals from 10 games in the TAC Cup.
He is a contested marking beast and has a smooth set-shot routine on his left foot.
“There are some similarities to a Travis Cloke in the way that he moves,” AFL academy coach Brenton Sanderson told Fox Sports. “But he’s a better set-shot than Travis Cloke — he just goes back and drains them time after time.
“He’s a fantastic character and young man, really mature who’s ready for AFL. He’s a logical choice for pick 2.”
