Any slim chance the Brisbane Lions might have had of playing Finals in 2012 were officially extinguished back in Round 18 following a 16-goal thrashing at the hands of West Coast in Perth.

But rather than simply sit back and simply ride out the rest of the season, the playing group got together and decided to re-evaluate their goals.

It was unanimously agreed that after all the hard work they had put in throughout the year, that it was important to finish the season off strongly.

So with five matches remaining, the Lions set themselves a target of winning at least three more games which would take them to a respectable 10 for the season.

With the Lions currently sitting on nine wins with one match to play, Senior Coach Michael Voss says the equation now is simple.

“We sat down as a group and the players said they wanted to set themselves a target of 10 wins - the guys made that commitment,” Voss said.

“We wanted to finish the season off well, even once we’d let Finals slip.”

“We’re currently on nine (wins), and have one game to go at home.”

To achieve their goal, the Lions will need to overcome the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba this Sunday afternoon

“We’re pretty committed to following through on what we said and the guys are leading the charge,” Voss said.

“They have taken genuine ownership of what happens out on the field.”

“With one game to go, we feel as though we can really achieve something at the back of the year.”

Sunday's final match of the season will also be dedicated to thanking the loyal Lions members who have supported the team throughout the year.
