Heat is on for Reserves
Strength and Conditioning Coordinator Matt Hass says the Lions Reserves will be prepared for the extreme Darwin conditions
Early weather predictions for game-day have the Northern Territory’s Capital reaching a high of 33 degrees, and falling to a toasty low of 20 degrees.
The extreme conditions - coupled with the fact the Thunder finished on top of the Northern Conference ladder - make it the toughest road trip in the NEAFL.
Speaking exclusively to LIONS TV as part of the Bupa Recovery Report, Lions Strength and Conditioning Coordinator Matt Hass said that certain measures will be taken to ensure the Reserves players don’t overheat.
“The biggest focus they obviously have is hydration and then keeping cool during the match,” Hass said.
“So there’ll be mist fans, ice towels, plunges at half-time, and things like that to keep their body temperature down.”
The senior team, meanwhile, came out of last Saturday’s win against Port Adelaide without any fresh injury concerns and will enjoy an eight-day recovery before taking on the Bulldogs.
“The boys pulled up fine. Browny had a small cut to his head which needed some stitches after the game, but other than that the boys were all good,” Hass said.
“(With a longer break) the training schedule has a little bit more recovery in it this week.”
“The boys will train tomorrow (Wednesday) and again on Friday.”
