Daniel Merrett’s late withdrawal prior to last Saturday’s clash against the Giants means the Brisbane Lions are still yet to field an unchanged line-up so far this season.

You would expect that trend will continue in Round 14 with at least one change on the cards.

Merrett will almost certainly return for the trip west to face Fremantle, while forward Jonathan Brown continues to undergo concussion tests following another head collision against Greater Western Sydney.

Even if he hadn’t been concussed, there’s a chance that Brown could have been rested for the trip to Perth anyway as part of the Club’s program to get the 15-year veteran through the season.

With Brown expected to miss, the key forward responsibilities will likely rest with Merrett and 19-year-old Michael Close, who booted two goals against the Giants last weekend.

Jordan Lisle and Jackson Paine are a couple of other options up forward, however the pair have been spending most of their time down back recently in the NEAFL.

That opens the door for the potential return for Ash McGrath, who has spent the past couple of weeks regaining match fitness with the Lions Reserves after missing the opening three months of the season with a calf injury.

McGrath was recruited to the Club from South Fremantle, so should be familiar with the surrounds of Subiaco should he get the nod.

Another local West Australian, Nick Robertson, could be in line for a recall following a 29-disposal effort against the UWS Giants in the NEAFL last week, while fellow draftee Tom Cutler will also be a chance to exploit his running ability on the expansive Patersons Stadium.

The final Brisbane Lions’ Round 14 side will be revealed on lions.com.au at 6:25pm tonight.
