It’s hard to see many changes coming at the selection table ahead of Round 19 considering the Brisbane Lions are fresh from their best performance of the season.
Sam Mayes suffered a mild concussion late in the third quarter of team’s 54-point demolition of Gold Coast at the Gabba, however early indications are that he should be fine to take his place this Sunday against Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.
The Lions Reserves also had a win over the Suns in their NEAFL clash, with Jordan Lisle booting a game-high six goals, while Zac O’Brien, Marco Paparone, Jackson Paine, and Nick Robertson were all prominent.
Ruckman Matthew Leuenberger also returned after a couple of weeks on the sidelines with a sore Achilles to play half a game.
You would expect Leuenberger will need at least one more hitout in the NEAFL before being considered for senior selection.
A Sunday afternoon match means the Lions will select a 25-man squad on Thursday evening, with the final team of 22 to be trimmed down by 5pm on Friday.
Melbourne-based fans are reminded that retired champion Jonathan Brown will be officially farewelled at the Club’s official aftermatch function in the Victory Room this Sunday.
Fans who attend the function will receive a special commemorative ‘Thank You Browny’ placard, and also have the chance to win some great Brown-related raffle prizes.
