If a player’s popularity was measured purely on his ability to attract sponsorship from Lions members, then Claye Beams would be on par with superstars Jonathan Brown and Simon Black atop the popularity stakes.
Beams, who has played just 13 senior matches in three seasons with the Club, is one of only four Lions players – along with teammates Brown, Black and Dayne Zorko – who have reached their quota of four sponsors in both Queensland and Victoria.
Like Beams, Zorko has also managed to attract considerable support from fans after only a short time at the Club.
Player sponsorships are fast becoming popular Lions membership add-ons, as they give fans an opportunity to get behind their favourite player.
Sponsorship packages come complete with exclusive benefits including a personally signed jumper or photograph, and two tickets to an inner sanctum function where you can mingle with your – and other – Lions player/s.
Fellow young gun Jared Polec looks likely to be the next player to have the ‘sold out’ sticker plastered across his name, with only one sponsorship remaining in both Queensland and Victoria.
Meanwhile, Rohan Bewick and Callum Bartlett are sold out in Queensland only, and Daniel Rich and Mitch Golby are no longer available in Victoria.
Also close to selling out in Queensland are Ryan Harwood, Billy Longer, Josh Green, Jordan Lisle, Elliot Yeo, Jack Redden, Sam Mayes and Aaron Cornelius, while Sam Docherty and Patrick Karnezis are one sponsor away from being unavailable in Victoria.
The latest crop of Lions draftees already have nine sponsors between them – with Mayes leading the way with five.
