Most Lions fans feared the worst when Matt Maguire was substituted out of last Saturday’s match after hobbling to the bench – particularly considering his recent history of leg injuries.
But Maguire seems to have escaped any major damage and is expected to miss just 1-2 weeks.
Physical Performance Manager Brett Burton initially told LIONS TV that a final decision on the key defender would be reserved for later in the week.
“Apart from ‘Goose’, everyone pulled up pretty well – although mentally they were obviously a bit sore when we got beaten pretty convincingly.
“(Maguire) was pretty sore after the weekend. He got a hit to his shin and has had some injuries to that area before.”
“He’s improving, but we’ll see how the week progresses for him and make a call on him at the end of the week.”
However, the Lions' injury list - which was finalised on Wednesday - has listed Maguire as being a 1-2 week proposition.
Meanwhile, ruckman Matthew Leuenberger is getting closer to a senior return after getting through a full game with the Reserves last weekend.
“It was good for Leuey to get a full game – it was his first full game since Round 2 last year, so it’s been 12 months now,” Burton said.
“He was a little bit sore given it was his first full game, but he should be fit and ready to go again this week.”
