Already recognised by his teammates as one of the smartest players in the Brisbane Lions’ locker-room, Justin Clarke has certainly furthered his football education over the past 12 months.
Since arriving at the Hyundai Centre via the 2011 AFL Rookie Draft, Clarke has been exposed not only to the rigours of being a professional athlete, but also the Club’s proud history.
Only last week, the teenager from Booleroo was part of a sold out audience that helped celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the Lions’ historic 3-Peat.
“The Three-peat event was certainly an experience that I reckon was pretty special,” Clarke told fans during Wednesday’s live chat on the Lions’ website.
“I loved hearing the experiences of players that have achieved great things – as Vossy said, ‘success leaves clues’!”
In his short time with the Club, Clarke has also gained a greater understanding of the Lions’ unique history, born from the merger between Fitzroy and the Bears in July of 1996 – back when he was just two years-old.
“The Bears and Fitzroy history is certainly rich and an important part of our Club,” he said.
“I didn't know much about either of those clubs before I came here, but you certainly pick up on a lot very quickly.”
Clarke, who was recently elevated to the Lions’ senior list, keeps busy off the field by continuing his studies.
”I am currently doing two subjects of electrical engineering with Charles Darwin University in Darwin,” Clarke revealed.
“It can be a bit stressful juggling footy and uni at times, but I really enjoy being able to have a mental challenge outside of footy.”
