Lions back on home soil
The Lions are set to play at the Gabba for the first time in seven months
With cricket occupying the Gabba throughout summer, the Lions ventured to Wagga, Melbourne (twice), and the Gold Coast during their NAB Cup pre-season campaign.
The Lions had their first opportunity to train on the Gabba turf only last week, and will host Adelaide this Saturday in a rare twilight fixture.
Assistant Coach Shane Woewodin believes a return to the Gabba is exactly what the team needs after a disappointing showing in Melbourne last weekend against the Western Bulldogs.
“The Gabba is our territory and we have to own that,” Woewodin told LIONS TV as part of the regular Vero Coaches’ Wrap.
“It’s our first game in Queensland for 2013 really – at least it is in Brisbane. So we’re really encouraging all our members and supporters to get along this Saturday afternoon and support the boys.”
Woewodin said the Club won’t need to look far for inspiration this week ahead of their clash with the Crows.
“2012 has passed – we won’t look for any inspiration from that (win against Adelaide late last year),” Woewodin said.
“We need to rebound as a group, and there should be no other motivation required other than the performance we put in Round 1.”
Adelaide will also be determined to secure their first win of the 2013 season, after being upset by Essendon in their season-opener at AAMI Stadium.
“We’re taking on a top four team from last season and we know they’re a quality outfit,” Woewodin said.
