Jack Redden believes that Simon Black’s imminent senior return could help ‘lift’ the rest of his Lions teammates.
Not only will Black’s supreme ball-winning ability prove a welcome addition to the team’s midfield, but his mere presence and on-field leadership would be just as important.
Although the three-time Club Champion is still no certainty to face West Coast this Saturday at the Gabba, his inclusion won’t be far away.
“Blacky played a full game in the twos, so he’d be close I reckon,” Redden said.
“A quality player like Blacky would provide a massive lift for us boys. We all know what he’s capable of.”
Redden said his side was determined to bounce back at home against the Eagles, after being blown away in the first quarter against reigning Premiers Sydney last Sunday.
“We’ve got to fix up a few things. We know where we need to improve, so hopefully we can bring that to this week’s game,” he said.
“I think we match up pretty well against West Coast. Obviously they’re a top four side – well they were last year anyway – and are starting to find some form again. It’s going to be a tough game.”
Redden was joined by injured teammate Daniel Rich at the Mater Children’s Hospital in Brisbane on Tuesday to visit some of the children and help promote this year’s Mater Little Miracles 5ks family fun event, which is being held on Sunday 2 June at Southbank Parklands.
“It’s a great initiative. Hopefully they can get some good numbers down at Southbank and raise some money for a good cause,” Redden said.
“To put a smile on the kids’ face is great because they’re obviously going through tough times at the moment.”
