Second half surge: Voss
Senior Coach Michael Voss believes his side is well prepared for the second half of the season.
The win means the Lions will head into their Bye Round with restored confidence - despite sitting 14th on the AFL ladder with just four wins from their first 10 matches.
In this week’s Vero Coaches’ Wrap on LIONS TV, Senior Coach Michael Voss revealed that his team aren’t far off from where most would have realistically predicted they would be at this stage of the year.
Of the team’s six losses, four have come against top eight teams - including both reigning Grand Finalists. The other two losses have been against Fremantle and North Melbourne away from home.
“Looked at our start to the season, if we were any better than where we are now, it would have been a fantastic effort. But we’re probably one win away from where we’d like to be.” Voss said.
With 10 weeks of AFL experience under many of his young players’ belts, Voss believes his side is now better prepared for the second half of the season.
“I always suspected and HOPED that our back half of the season would be better than our first half,” Voss said.
“We’ve gotten some valuable game time into guys like Josh Green, Dayne Zorko, Ryan Lester and Jarec Polec, which is only going to help us continue to expand our depth in our younger brigade.”
“The more games they get in the front half of the season is going to set us up better in the second half.”
“Let’s hope that (the win against West Coast) can be a catalyst for us. But it can’t be the only thing we hang our hat on. We need to use this to build our season.”
