Lions Assistant Coach Mark Harvey says he’s looking forward to showcasing a slightly different game plan during the NAB cup.

Harvey, speaking after the Lions’ intra-club match this morning, promised ‘a few tactical changes’ in 2012, starting with next weekend’s pre-season opener on the Gold Coast.

Harvey’s partnership with Senior Coach Michael Voss will be crucial as the Lions look to improve on their exit from last year’s competition.

The February fixtures also provide an opportunity to gauge the form of the other clubs.

“The unknown quantity is that everyone’s improved at this time of year” said Harvey.

“We’ll see if anything’s tactically evolved in the game too.”

Contrary to the common theme of rotation and resting of players during the NAB cup, Harvey is intent on affording the Lions’ full roster game time.

“It’s very important we get two or three games into all of our players [during the pre-season] so we’ve got, hopefully, a full list to pick from.”

That means new recruits like Sam Docherty and Billy Longer can expect the chance to show their wares.

“It’ll be good to have a look at the draft picks; there will be definitely be a different dimension to the team. The NAB Cup gives us a real chance to look at our depth.”
