Voss on improvements from last week

“We were non-competitive last week. What left a really bad taste in our mouths was the notion that we had just given up.”

“Players will never come up to you and say they’ve given up, but it certainly looked as though it was all too hard last week against Hawthorn.”

“It wasn’t like that against Geelong. They had nine goals on the board before we had one and then we kicked four of the next five which certainly steadied the flow.”

“Then at the start of the third quarter they came out and scored a few more goals which put us at a distance. But at least we saw out the game.”

“I wouldn’t say it’s a positive, but there were some positive signs. I don’t think you can ever walk away feeling positive after a 10 goal loss. But I’m at least proud of their approach to the game.”

Voss on Ryan Harwood’s debut

“I was pleased with his first game. He was going up against an elite midfield group and he certainly went in hard.”

“I think in the long term he’ll develop that special quality of being able to get out of the congestion with speed.”

“His decision-making is alright and he’ll get better with the more games he plays. His fitness and confidence will also build with every senior game he plays. We believe he’s got some really good attributes that could be valuable for us in the future.”

“So look out for his name in a few years to come.”
