Sheedy our guest at the Gabba
Kevin Sheedy will be a special guest at this Saturday night's match against Essendon.
As an AFL player and coach for more than five decades, Sheedy has never been far from controversy and is widely regarded for his wry sense of humour, outspoken nature and selfless promotion of the game.
Who could forget him famously labelling North Melbourne executives as ‘marshmallows’ for apparently being too soft or blaming the ‘martians’ - in direct reference to the umpires - for costing his side a match.
Now Lions corporate partners and guests will have the opportunity to hear from Sheedy directly when he joins the Club as our special guest speaker in the Hyundai Platinum Club on Saturday 14 May when the Lions take on his former side Essendon in Round 9 at the Gabba.
His presence will be timely too with a decade having passed since the Lions claimed the 2001 flag.
Tickets are $395 per person and include a sumptuous three-course meal, premium beverage package, reserved VIP seating and live entertainment.
Bookings can be made by calling our Corporate Sales team on 07 3335 1717 or emailing sales@lions.com.au
Aside from his quirky antics, Sheedy has achieved more than most in the AFL industry and has an unsurpassed record of close to 1,000 games of experience.
He played a total of 251 games for Richmond as a tough as nails back pocket and was part of three premierships as a player with the Tigers (1969, 1973 and 1974) before hanging up the boots in 1979.
Sheedy was appointed as Senior Coach of Essendon in 1981 where he remained for a record 635 games during 27 years of continuous coaching. During his time with the Bombers, he competed in seven AFL Grand Finals and led the team to four premierships over three separate decades.
His other coaching achievements include coaching Australia in the International Rules Series and Victoria in the now defunct State of Origin.
Sheedy will return to the AFL scene next year as the Senior Coach of the new Greater Western Sydney franchise and has been keeping busy developing the Giants’ list in time for their inaugural AFL season in 2012.
