Trade process slowed
National Talent Manager Rob Kerr believes the introduction of Free Agency has delayed decisions on some players' futures
Clubs have until 5pm on Friday 19 October to sign Free Agents, with the AFL then determining adequate compensation (in the form of draft picks) for those who have lost players.
Kerr told brisbanetimes.com.au that the introduction of Free Agency has slowed the trade process, with clubs preferring to wait and see what compensation they receive from the AFL before finalising deals.

As a result, some players have been forced to wait longer than usual to find out their fate.
“You have players on your list who don't know what is going to happen - they're not sure what their future is,” Kerr told brisbanetimes.com.au.
“It's (the trade period) too long.”
“Clubs are sitting back a bit more…waiting for draft picks to arise for (free) agency."
The Lions’ only activity over the past three weeks has been the signing of former Melbourne Best and Fairest Brent Moloney as a Free Agent, and it is still unknown whether the Club will participate further in the exchange period.

But Kerr says the Club’s relative inaction was a positive sign.
“In the past we have had players that have wanted to move out, so our activity has been more based on that," he said.
“This time it's more about players we want to bring in, which is a much better situation to be in.”
Although Free Agency offers will cease this Friday afternoon, another week still remains for clubs to sort out suitable trades.
The official AFL Trade Period will close on Friday 26 October.
