The Brisbane Lions’ ability to score from stoppage has been somewhat of a silver-lining for the Club this season.
“We’re sitting in 9th spot for goals from stoppage for the year on 9.8%. Hopefully this week we can outscore the opposition in St Kilda and get into that top 8 bracket,” said Assistant Coach Danny Daly.
“Seven of the top eight sides on the ladder lead that area. The only one out of the eight is Hawthorn who are a good turnover side.
“That’s a bit of a positive out of the year.”

The Lions outscored Geelong on Sunday in scores from stoppages, just the fifth times the Cats have been beaten in that area this season.
“We went in with a plan with our stoppages to win clearances against them but also put them under a bit of pressure on the scoreboard.
“Of the Cats’ 21 games, 16 of those they’ve outscored their opposition from stoppage, five games they’ve been outscored by their opposition from stoppage.
“We came up with a bit of a formula to try to beat them. Our aim was to win the clearance – be aggressive. Kick the ball quickly to put their defence under pressure and to make their defenders ‘defend’,” Daly said.
“On the weekend we scored three goals from our forward 50 stoppages. We kicked 6.5 from our stoppages on the weekend and Geelong kicked 5.7.
“From a stoppage perspective whilst they kicked a couple of late goals which we were a bit disappointed about we were able to get the job done in terms of outscoring them and winning clearance.”
