Queensland fans can get excited about a first-look at their team with today’s fixture announcement seeing them scheduled to play the Gold Coast SUNS at Metricon Stadium in the opening round of the AFL Community Series pre-season game.
Two rounds of matches will be played over a three-week period this pre-season and the Lions first feature in week 2 at 6.40pm, Saturday 27 February 2021.
The game will be a double-header with the SUNS v Lions Round 5 AFLW clash (4.10pm) also being held at Metricon Stadium.
Brisbane Lions GM of Football Danny Daly said that the Club was excited for the double-header particularly after all of the hype in Queensland in the back half of 2020.
“There was a real sense of excitement around footy in Queensland in the back half of last year and it’s great to see a fixture that allows fans here to get a taste for it again early in 2021.
“Our games against The SUNS in both the AFL and AFLW competitions have traditionally been really exciting to watch and I’m sure that will continue.”
In a great opportunity for our Victorian fans to see the team early on in the year, the Lions second pre-season AFL game will be on Saturday 6 March at 4:40pm against Carlton at Ikon Park.
Ticketing arrangements for the 2021 AFL Community Series will be advised in due course.
