Lions Midfield Coach Dale Tapping said their contested pressure has been a focus for the team for the past eighteen months and while the statistics reflect improvement, there needs to be more consistency.
“There’s a whole amount of things that come with our contested methods, so we’ve just got to work on it,” he told lions.com.au.
“Against a very good team [Collingwood] that are really strong around the contest, they challenge you on that.
“There are some lessons out of that for us and we will be better for it,” he said.
Lions workhorse Dayne Zorko stood up as Captain, charging away with nine tackles and 17 disposals.
Heading into his milestone 150th game, this weekend against the Gold Coast SUNS, Zorko leads the AFL in pressure acts.
“I think since he has taken on the leadership mentor, I have noticed a real shift his professionalism and really leading by example,” Tapping said.
“His effort and leadership to try and really inspire his teammates is still really strong.”
Zorko will run on against the SUNS at Metricon on Saturday afternoon at 1:40pm.
