The Lions’ form over the past three months has tested the determination of players and coaches alike, as they have continued to work tirelessly off the field in training without much reward on game-day.

But the Club acknowledges this is a phase - and like all phases it will pass, and the team will emerge far stronger and more tightly bonded for the experience.

And through it all the Football Department say thanks to the members and supporters for sticking by the Club through thick and thin and for all the messages of support and feedback they have read and received this year. It is much appreciated.

Because of this Senior Coach Michael Voss revealed that the Club’s fans - who have been starved of on-field success for much of the 2010 Season - will serve as motivation for the Lions as they return home to face Melbourne at the Gabba this Saturday night.

“Our members and supporters have certainly shared these tough times with us and they’ve been tolerant throughout this period.”

“They really want us to play well. They want to be able to get out there and back us in.”

“We’ve only got a few games left - including three at home - so you want to make it as tough as possible for your opposition.”

“If there was ever a week to have that 19th man of the crowd in our corner, then it’s this week against the Demons.”

“Playing back at the Gabba has the extra bit of importance because it is our home and our venue and we’re playing in front of our own members and supporters.”

“I know we’re on display every time we walk out onto the field, but it certainly has special significance when we’re back here at the Gabba.”

“We’d love to be able to get good numbers along to the game to scream and shout as loud as they possibly can to give that extra motivation for the players.”
