We take a look at some of the key talking points from Vice-Captain Dayne Zorko’s press conference this morning.
What 100-point hoodoo?
The Lions kicked just 12 goals total in the two matches against North Melbourne last year. The Lions topped the ton against the Eagles last weekend and Zorko said they planned to use their "run-and-gun" style to turn the tables on the Roos tomorrow.
“For any team that can go over to the west and kick 100 points against a team that played in the Grand Final last year is a really good effort.
“I don’t think we'll change too much going into tomorrow.
“We want to score, we want to make it entertaining for the fans, we need to kick a score to win - it's as simple as that.”
Win, Win
“You win contested ball, you generally win the game,” Zorko said.
“They're obviously a lot taller side than us.
“We've got Allen Christensen who is flying at the moment, Lewis Taylor, add Josh Green into the mix and hopefully we can worry North Melbourne.”
New Rules Suit Lions
Off-season rule changes - including reduced interchange rotations, a tighter interpretation of the deliberate out-of-bounds rule and the new 10m ‘exclusion zone’ around the mark - have made it easier to attack, and according to Zorko, it's good news for the Lions.
“We've got a very young, energetic, fast team so I think that can definitely suit us, no doubt,” said Zorko.
“The way the game's heading with the rotations and that, it's definitely a lot easier to score.”
Not Happening
Brisbane were well beaten by North Melbourne twice last year - 82 points in round two at Etihad Stadium and by 72 points at the Gabba late in the season.
“They really smashed us both times. We've looked at those tapes and hopefully tomorrow afternoon we won't have the same result,” said Zorko.
“We don't want to be the side that gets belted by 60 to 100 points (anymore).”
