More than 2,000 Victorian-based Lions members and supporters gathered at The Manningham Club in Bulleen on Saturday 28 February to welcome the team to Melbourne for the first time in 2009.

Fans came out in full force after an encouraging on-field performance from the young Lions squad the night before against Essendon in the NAB Cup Quarter Final at Telstra Dome.

The team was introduced to the crowd and presented with their 2009 playing guernsey by a group of lucky Victorian junior members who had been selected as a reward for being among the first Victorian junior members to renew for the 2009 season.

Triple premiership Captain Michael Voss addressed the Lions Victorian faithful for the first time as Senior Coach and was pleased to see so many familiar faces from his playing days.

Players then proceeded to mingle with members and supporters, all the while signing plenty of autographs and posing for countless photos.

Fans also had the opportunity to enjoy a variety of free activities including rides, a jumping castle, face painting, an animal farm and replica TeamVodafone V8 Supercars as well as live entertainment.

Junior fans also had the chance to test themselves against their Lions heroes in handball drills at the Puma junior training station.

Meanwhile, Lions mascot Bernie Gabba Vegas eagerly caught up with his legion of Victorian-based junior members after spending much of his off-season touring around Queensland.
