Opening Round | Francine Spillane

For over 30 years, Francine has been inspiring and nurturing our youngest and brightest minds. While the curriculum sets the foundation, Francine goes above and beyond to teach invaluable life lessons, creating a classroom filled with kindness, confidence, independence, and, most importantly, fun. In Francine’s classroom, mistakes are celebrated as stepping stones to growth, and every child is encouraged to be their authentic self in a safe and supportive space. Her biggest life lesson? To live with no regrets and no fear—a philosophy she passionately shares to empower her students for life. Thank you, Francine, for making a difference every single day!

 

Round 3 | Chantal Kelly

Chantal Kelly is a true powerhouse in her community, balancing her role as an incredible single mum with her dedication to making a difference. As the acting Sergeant at her local PCYC, Chantal has been instrumental in transforming lives through her leadership and innovative programs. From introducing and leading Project BOOYAH to running Restart, which helps students develop vital self-management strategies, Chantal’s commitment to empowering youth is unmatched. She’s also the driving force behind initiatives like the After Dark program, youth space investments, and the vibrant "Crash the Streets" event during Youth Week. Chantal’s unwavering dedication and passion for creating positive change make her a shining light in the community. Thank you, Chantal, for all you do!

 

Round 6 | Keila Slater, Mater Cancer Care Centre Team

  • Under the compassionate leadership of Keila Slater, this incredible team is making a profound impact on the lives of people living with cancer and their families. Day in and day out, they provide not only exceptional care but also unwavering support, offering comfort and hope during some of life’s toughest moments. Despite the challenges of their work, Keila and her team approach every day with a smile, going above and beyond to ensure their patients feel valued, cared for, and supported in every way possible. Thank you, Keila and team, for your dedication, compassion, and tireless efforts in making a difference!

 

Round 8 | Deidre Scheltinger

  • As the district manager of the 1st Ipswich Girl Guide Hut, Diedre has spent countless years shaping young women into confident, capable leaders through activities like camping, outdoor skills, and community service. Her dedication extends far beyond guiding—she personally keeps the hut in top shape and recently organized a memorable 100-year celebration, bringing together past and present Guides. Diedre’s commitment to service shines through in her involvement in ANZAC Day activities, Clean Up Australia Day, and sausage sizzles. Her fundraising efforts have not only supported the Guides but also provided crucial aid to women and young girls facing homelessness due to domestic and family violence.

 

Round 10 | Aunty Tracey Bunda

Aunty Tracey, a proud Ngugi/Wakka Wakka woman, has been a beacon of leadership in Indigenous education for over three decades. Her career is a testament to her passion and dedication, holding senior leadership roles and conducting groundbreaking research on race, power dynamics, storying as a methodology, power inequities, and women’s leadership. Currently, Aunty Tracey is leading a research grant aimed at improving outcomes for Indigenous students and enhancing student engagement in Indigenous Studies. Her influence extends to her service on numerous boards, including the Hymba Yumba Aboriginal School, Advance Higher Education Advisory Board, and the Community Spirit Foundation. An accomplished author, editor, and the recipient of multiple awards for her service to the community, Aunty Tracey continues to inspire and create meaningful change. Thank you, Aunty Tracey, for your tireless work and outstanding contributions!

 

Round 14 | Trevor Rowler

Trevor is the heart and soul of the Springfield Storm AFL Club, dedicating countless hours to nurturing local junior players. From after-school training sessions to setting up weekend games at the crack of dawn, Trevor’s unwavering commitment and selflessness inspire everyone around him. As a coach, Trevor does more than teach skills—he fosters a sense of community, fun, and teamwork, shaping the future of young athletes while leaving a lasting impact on their lives. Always the first to arrive and the last to leave, his dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed, with parents singing his praises as an incredible mentor and role model. Her extraordinary commitment goes beyond education—Laura provides a sense of hope, connection, and joy that uplifts her students and their families during difficult times. Round 17 | Dan Cumberland

Dan is a pillar of the community, always ready to lend a hand at school and local events, bringing positivity and a smile wherever he goes. His dedication to making a difference includes raising funds for local charities supporting youth and women at risk, showcasing his deep compassion and commitment to those in need. Recognised with a Lord Mayor’s Award for his outstanding work during the floods, Dan’s contributions extend even further. He brings local dads together to exercise and focus on their mental health, fostering a sense of connection and support in his community. Thank you, Dan, for your generosity, leadership, and tireless efforts to uplift those around you!

 

Round 19 | Amani Badibanga

  • Amani is a passionate advocate for his community, dedicated to preserving the Swahili language in Southeast Queensland through his volunteer work as a community radio presenter. His efforts ensure that cultural heritage remains vibrant and accessible to all. Having navigated his own settlement journey to Australia, Amani now works tirelessly to support new arrivals in Brisbane and Logan. As a community leader and representative, he fosters connection and belonging by helping newcomers integrate into their local cultural and religious communities. Thank you, Amani, for your inspiring leadership, dedication, and commitment to creating a sense of home and unity for so many!

 

Round 22 | Lisa Loane

Lisa is an extraordinary single mum and a cornerstone of her community. With over 10 years of experience as a nurse, she has consistently gone above and beyond to support the most vulnerable in our public health system. Whether guiding families through their toughest days or advocating for the aged and ill, Lisa’s compassion knows no bounds. During the challenges of COVID-19, Lisa stepped up in remarkable ways, working in vaccination centres, COVID wards, and providing care through the virtual ward via telehealth. Outside of her demanding work, Lisa is a dedicated mother, a driving force in her community, and an inspiring role model. As a proud Brisbane Lions member, she exemplifies the spirit of a true Community Champion. Thank you, Lisa, for your tireless dedication and incredible contributions!

 

Round 24 | Andrew Roberts

Andrew is the driving force behind the growth and transformation of the Zillmere Eagles Junior AFL Club. As the phenomenal volunteer treasurer, he has worked tirelessly to create a welcoming and supportive environment for young players. His dedication culminated in the successful grant application of $250,000 in 2023, enabling the club to rebuild its change rooms—an essential upgrade that now supports the growing number of junior girls joining the team. Andrew’s efforts extend far beyond finances. He dedicates his Saturdays to running meat tray raffles and has been instrumental in securing sponsorships, ensuring registration fees remain as low as possible. His commitment has made it possible for more children, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to experience the joy of playing footy.
